O90 Friday Faves - One Billion Rising

Valentine's Day is also V-Day, the 15th anniversary of a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. O90 has been so shaken by the on-going reports about violence against women across the globe: Malala Yousafazi in Pakistan, Laura Logan in Egypt, gang rapes in India, on-going rape as a military tactic in the Congo, and recent assaults against women protesters in Tahir Square. It is estimated that one in three women on the planet will be raped or beaten in her lifetime! For V-day, people around the world rose up and took to the streets to dance. Their actions are part of a global movement in more than 200 countries to end rape and sexual violence against women called One Billion Rising, launched by playwright Eve Ensler, creator of "The Vagina Monologues." Here is  a report of the movement, including a must-see moving testimony from musician Anoushka Shankar, the daughter of Ravi Shankar, who reveals she was sexually abused as a child. http://bit.ly/15flwU1
